Matthew's Bio

Building wealth is one thing. Managing it well is another. As wealth grows, so do the opportunities and decisions that come with it. Matt works with high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners, and high-income earners to make those decisions easier, helping them organize their finances, invest thoughtfully, and build a strategy around what they ultimately want their wealth to accomplish.

Matt takes a comprehensive approach to wealth management, helping clients:

  • Manage cash flow and invest prudently to support their lifestyle and long-term goals.
  • Improve tax efficiency through qualified retirement plans, Roth conversions, charitable giving, tax-efficient investment strategies, and thoughtful asset allocation, with consideration for where investments are held, how income is generated, and the tax impact of investment decisions.
  • Manage concentrated stock positions and capital gains through diversification, tax-loss harvesting, and risk management strategies.
  • Build diversified portfolios across public markets, fixed income, and alternative investments to pursue growth, generate income, and manage risk.
  • Coordinate their financial lives by working alongside clients’ CPAs and estate planning attorneys to align investment, tax, retirement, and estate planning decisions.

Prior to joining Watts Gwilliam & Company, Matt worked at WealthPlan Advisors, where he managed retirement assets, developed financial plans, and provided investment education to corporate 401(k) plan participants and business owners. He began his career at Charles Schwab, working with individual investors and wealth management firms across the country.

Matt earned a B.S. in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance from Brigham Young University–Idaho. He and his wife Lucy live in Gilbert, Arizona with their two sons. Outside of work, he enjoys competitive horseback riding, golf, puzzles, and board games.
